The court document, written by an agent with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, describes an operation in which an advertisement was placed on “a website commonly used to advertise commercial sex acts.” The ad suggested that commercial sex acts could be purchased with “2 beautiful flowers that are ready to bloom.” Quraishi responded to the ad by text message, the affidavit said, and an undercover agent told him they had one 12-year-old and one 14-year-old girl available to perform sex acts in exchange for money. Quraishi “agreed to pay $250 to have sex with the fictitious 14-year-old girl,” the affidavit said. The document includes several pages of text messages that Quraishi exchanged with the undercover agent. In those messages, he asks if the undercover agent is “a serial killer” or a police officer. “Uh… you a cop?” the affidavit said Quraishi wrote.”No way,” said a message from the undercover officer. “Just trying to make a living best way we know how.”Quraishi went to the hotel where they agreed to meet and, according to the affidavit, gave the cash to another undercover agent in exchange for a hotel key card. After that exchange and conversation, Quraishi was arrested, and agents said they verified he possessed the cellphone used in the text message conversation that arranged the meeting. The affidavit identified Quraishi as an anesthesiologist at Tufts Medical Center.”During a post-arrest interview, and after being advised of his Miranda rights, Quraishi indicated he has purchased sex in the past,” the affidavit states. Hospital officials said he was placed on leave after they learned of the allegations. “When we learned today of the disturbing allegations made against Dr. Quraishi, we immediately suspended his medical staff privileges, and he has been placed on leave while we await further information from law enforcement,” a spokesperson wrote. Quraishi is being held without bail.
