Vikings vs. Packers Match Story:
Minnesota Vikings vs Green Bay Packers will take place at US Bank Stadium for an NFL game on Sunday. The Vikings come into this game on the back of a 23-13 loss to the Denver Broncos. Quarterbacks Sean Mannion was 9 of 16 passing and completed 121 yards while Kellen Mond completed 102 yards while being 10 of 17 passing. Running back Bryant Koback ran for 41 yards and scored one touchdown.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell spoke after the game and reflected on Sean Mannion’s performance. He said, “That was a killer. Sean’s trying to get ready to check the ball down. We coach real hard to have two hands on it in the pocket.” Mannion got Minnesota, who went winless in preseason, to midfield for Greg Joseph’s 46-yard field goal as time expired, cutting their deficit to 17-10 at halftime.
On the other hand, the Packers come into this game on the back of a 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in their last preseason game. Quarterback Jordan Love passed for 148 yards and had one interception as he was 16 of 26 passing while Danny Etling completed 10 of his 13 attempted passes and completed 97 yards. Running back Tyler Goodson rushed for 28 yards and scored one touchdown.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said after the game, “It’s kind of an awkward time for us having a game Thursday and having cuts on Tuesday. A lot of it’s going to come down to how guys perform on special teams. I thought they all did a lot of good things out there.”
Vikings vs. Packers Game Prediction:
A few guesses here: The Packers will likely struggle on offense early, but the defense will create a turnover (or two) to produce a few easy scoring opportunities that help get Aaron Rodgers going. I think this turns out to be more of a defensive battle than many are probably expecting, especially after last year’s track meet. There are unknowns for the Packers offensive line, the passing game may need time to get on the same page and the crowd noise always plays a factor. But the Packers defense is legit, and I think the disruption of the pass-rush keeps the Vikings on the ropes from start to finish. It’s eventually enough to escape U.S. Bank Stadium with a hard-fought Week 1 victory. A more specific prediction: A strip-sack from Rashan Gary finishes the deal late in the fourth quarter.
Prediction: Packers 21 , Vikings 17
